From Hollywood to Paris: The Birth of the French Manicure

This work traces the unexpected journey of one of the world’s most recognizable nail styles. Although its name suggests French origins, the modern French manicure is widely credited to American beauty entrepreneur Jeff Pink, who developed a natural pink-and-white nail look for Hollywood actresses. The versatile design allowed their nails to complement multiple costumes without requiring constant changes.

The style later traveled from Hollywood to the fashion world of Paris, where its understated elegance appeared on the runways. Its association with Paris ultimately helped give the look the name by which it became known around the world: the French manicure.

Inspired by the Eiffel Tower, created for the 1889 World’s Fair in Paris, this work transforms that journey into a sculptural form. Built entirely from nail tips in the signature soft pink and white palette of the classic French manicure, the piece connects its American origins with the Parisian fashion world that helped shape its global identity. The strength and monumentality of the Eiffel Tower are reinterpreted through delicate beauty elements, turning a familiar manicure into an architectural symbol of the connection between Hollywood and Paris.
